My Grandpa & The Ivey Business School Laptop

Over the past few weeks I have been asked how do I find the time to blog.
It's 2am, everyone is sleeping except me.
Most of my hours on the computer are during hours when everyone is sleeping.
Monday-Friday I start work at 6AM while everyone is sleeping.
On Weekends I blog in the late hours while everyone is sleeping.

Tonight, while I was trying to go to sleep I decided it was time to blog.
This story took place 10+ years ago when I too spent many nights without sleep.
Our school Motto was "work hard, play hard" and as such very little sleep.

This past week my parents were telling me about their bus ride to work & their chat with a University of Western Student who was taking the bus to his 1st day at the Ivey Business school.

It's been 10+ years since I too entered my 1st day at the Ivey Business school.

September 2001 I remember getting up extra early to ride the bus because if you were late there was another student waiting to take your spot in the program.

I remember the majority people on the bus all being Ivey students.

I remember wearing my purple dress shirt, black pants & carrying my Ivey Business school laptop bag that carried my 1st ever laptop.

Tonight's story is about my Grandpa & the Ivey Laptop:

When I had received my acceptance letter to the school they had sent a list of requirements. At the time I was already attending The University of Western in London Ontario.  My grandpa also was & is still living in London.

My grandpa is really one of the most loving & funniest & greatest Grandpa's around.
We have so many great stories of my Grandpa.

The Laptop Story is one of my many favourite Grandpa Stories:

When I was accepted to Ivey they sent a letter of requirements.
One of the requirements was to have a Laptop.
The school even gave us a specific computer store that sold Laptops to Ivey students.
My wonderful grandpa decided that he was going to help me out & purchase my laptop.
I thankfully accepted my grandpa's help.

The two of set out to to go to this computer store.

I had the list of Ivey School computer specifications.

My grandpa had his cookie tin of "loonies & twoonies".

YES, my grandpa had enough loonies & twoonies in a cookie tin to buy a laptop.

When we entered the Computer store I wasn't 100% sure how to pay for our purchases & may have slightly hidden the cookie tin from the salesmen.

However, when it came time to pay my wonderful Grandpa said:
"Alana, show the salesmen what's in the cookie tin"
The salesmen a little curious asked: "What's in the cookie tin?"
I then opened the cookie tin & we paid for my 1st Business school Laptop with my tin of twoonies & loonies.

We walked out of the store with a laptop, an empty cookie tin & lots of laughs.

Thanks to my Grandpa I was able to walk into the Ivey Business School with pride with my new Laptop. I loved going to Western & I loved going to Ivey.

I am most grateful for my one of my biggest supporters my Grandpa Roy.

And who knows the next Ivey student may just be in our household.

This photo was taken in June 2009 when we took Little Bryant to see Big Bryant at Western. The next generation Grandpa Roy has a few more years to save up his twoonies & loonies.

We love our Grandpa Roy(s).
